What happens to HoldOn bags if they end up in a landfill?Updated 2 months ago
In an ideal world, all compostable products will end up in an industrial or home composting environment, and single-use traditional plastic will be out of sight with the switch to compostable products and packaging. Unfortunately, that is not the case today and we recognize that our bags may end up in a landfill along with everything else.
For optimal results, our bags are designed to break down cleanly without creating microplastics or toxic residue when placed in a composting environment with the right temperatures and conditions. In an anaerobic environment such as a landfill, however, the decomposition process will be impacted and significantly delayed due to the lack of oxygen. Furthermore, the natural byproduct of the breakdown process, methane, is inevitable.
That is why here at HoldOn, we are not only passionate about our mission to reduce the use and production of traditional/conventional single-use plastics, but also to build awareness of composting to redirect food waste to composting facilities and environments, and the importance of responsibly disposing items and creating less waste wherever possible. Yes, we acknowledge that our HoldOn bags are not going to solve every problem out there; however, we believe that these small changes matter and will lead to better and bigger ways to keep our planet cleaner than how we found it.
