How do I prevent leaks and tears in my kitchen bin?Updated 2 months ago

Great question, and something that comes up from time to time as our HoldOn 13 gallon tall kitchen drawstring bags are made of plant-based and compostable polymers that are more sensitive to moisture build-up and sharp/pointy edges than the conventional/traditional plastic bags out there.

Here are some of our recommendations to avoid any leaks and tears (and any related messes) in the kitchen!

  • Keep your bags in a cool and dry space to help maintain their optimal strength.
  • Drain excess liquid from wet items before throwing them away (including coffee grounds and used tea bags). We find it best to wrap wet items in a used paper towel or napkin prior to disposal to help minimize moisture build-up inside the bag.
  • Switch out your bag every 3 ~ 4 days, and if you are a small household or do not create that much waste (which is a great thing, by the way!), it's your opportunity to recycle what needs to be recycled, throw away food scraps in a composting bin and use our 13 gallon tall kitchen bags for dry items to help extend the days of use per bag.
  • Avoid throwing away items with sharp and pointy edges to minimize holes and tears while the bag is in the kitchen bin.
  • Our bags are designed to fit most 13 gallon kitchen bins out there. If the top opening of the bag is not quite fitting around the top rim of the kitchen bin, try holding the "top center" of the bag to pull the bag over the kitchen bin. Due to the nature of the materials and our updated formulation of our bags, the stretch factor is minimized but the bags are meant to last 1 ~ 2 days longer while in use.
