Can I compost HoldOn bags at home? What about at a commercial/industrial facility?Updated 2 months ago

HoldOn bags are BPI (Biodegradable Products Institute) certified which means that they are accepted at commercial/industrial composting facilities (*Note - not all commercial composting facilities accept compostable bags and packaging at this time due to limitations within their processing facilities to properly separate compost created from food scraps/waste from compostable packaging and products).

BPI is the only recognized 3rd party in North America in verification of compostable products for the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). HoldOn bags have been tested and certified by BPI under the ASTM D6400 (or the North American equivalent of the European EN-13432) standards which require that biodegradable / compostable products completely decompose/break down in a composting setting in a specific time frame without leaving microplastics or toxic residue.

HoldOn bags (with the exception of our Tall Kitchen 13 gallon bags) are also TUV Austria OK Home Compost certified (formerly known as Vincotte). That means that our bags have been tested and certified to be composted in a proper home composting environment.
